NeuroMuscular Taping Institute - Founder and Inventor

David Blow is the founder and president of the NeuroMuscular Taping Institute, which has been based in Rome since 2003. He is an international instructor of NeuroMuscular Taping in Europe and the United States. He has twenty-four years of therapeutic experience in rehabilitation, including training in Australia, China, Japan, and Italy. In 2003, he developed the innovative NeuroMuscular Taping Concept (NMTConcept) taping technique, which has become popular and is creating significant changes in the field of rehabilitation. The NeuroMuscular Taping Institute is a result of his passion for providing those medical professionals working in rehabilitation with protocols that improve patients’ overall treatment results and quality of life.

David graduated from the Australian Acupuncture College in 1989 after an internship rehabilitating patients through acupuncture in Japan. He then held an internship at Guang Dong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for four months, during which time he treated many conditions, specializing in acupuncture treatment for strokes. He brought his experience to Italy and founded the Italian AcuDetox Association and developed programs for treating alcoholism and substance abuse through acupuncture.

In 1999, he came in contact with various taping techniques. He spent the next few years studying these techniques and observed certain limitations from a rehabilitative point of view. He decided to explore the idea of decompression taping on the skin surface as a form of therapy, based on clinical observations of the dynamics of muscle contraction and extension. Since that time, David has developed the NMTConcept and applied it to treatment to create a clinically validated concept. The NMTConcept is currently used for neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation in both public and private health services in Italy, where it is quickly becoming a mainstream treatment protocol.

David has published various case studies and articles, and is currently involved in many research projects, including projects involving the treatment of multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, pediatric conditions, and neurological conditions as well as oncological rehabilitation and post-surgical rehabilitation. David is the author of NeuroMuscular Taping: from Theory to Practice published in English, Italian, Spanish, German, and Korean. However, his principal objective is professional education in medical and physical rehabilitation. He has developed a series of course programs and currently teaches over 1,400 physical therapists, occupational therapists, doctors, and nurses every year through continuing education and certificate programs in Italy and other European countries.

Since 2008, David has taught 235 continuing education courses in medicine accredited by the Italian Health Ministry. He recently completed a large-scale government-sponsored project in Italy, in which he taught a course to one hundred physiotherapists in order to integrate the treatment protocol into post-surgical care. He is a scientific referee, consulting professor, and authority in continuing education and hospital projects throughout Italy. He is a visiting professor in the post-master’s programs in sports traumatology at the University of Pisa and the Agostino Gemelli University Polyclinic and Teaching Hospital of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome.

In other European countries, David is involved in accredited continuing education programs at University Medical Center Ljubljana and University Medical Center Maribor, as well as General Hospital Izola in Slovenia, Paprikovac Hospital in Banja Luka, Bosnia, and Bel Medic General Hospital in Belgrade, Serbia.

David currently resides in Rome with his wife and two children, where he enjoys sailing, traveling, and Mediterranean cuisine in his spare time.
